Mount Bromo is an active volcano located in East Java, Indonesia, and it’s one of the most popular tourist destinations in the country. Here are some things to know before visiting Mount Bromo:
Best time to visit: The best time to visit Mount Bromo is during the dry season, which is from April to October. The peak season is from June to August, so expect more crowds during this time, but Mount Bromo can be crowded any weekend or public holiday in Indonesia Calendar. So, we recommend visiting during weekdays.
Weather: Mount Bromo is situated at an altitude of 2,329 meters, so the temperature can be quite chilly. It’s recommended to bring warm clothing, especially if you plan to visit during sunrise time, it can be super windy sometimes and don’t wear short at the sunrise point.
- Entrance fee: There is an entrance fee to enter the Mount Bromo area, which varies depending on whether you’re a foreigner or a local, And it has difference between weekends and weekdays. Jeep tour: Most visitors take a jeep tour to reach the viewpoint for the sunrise. These tours can be arranged in the nearby town of Sukapura, Cemoro Lawang or Ngadisari Village or at the entrance of the Mount Bromo area. Jeep is the best and fastest way to reach sunrise point especially the highest one such as Penanjakan Point.
Hiking: You can also hike up to the viewpoint for sunrise, but it will take more than 3 hours from the Comoro Lawang village and it’s important to be prepared and bring appropriate gear, as the terrain can be rough and rocky. Hiking to Peak of Mount Bromo is pretty easy, because the path is broad and sandy, so nothing to worry here. It’s just smelly sometimes from the horse’s shit.
Volcanic activity: Mount Bromo is an active volcano, so it’s important to be aware of any changes in activity. It’s recommended to check with local authorities before visiting and to follow any safety guidelines. Mostly the volcanologists don’t recommend to stay longer at the peak of Mount Bromo, because it can be erupted anytime.
Local culture: The area surrounding Mount Bromo is home to the Tenggerese people, who have their own unique culture and traditions. Visitors should be respectful of their customs and beliefs. Sometimes there will be closure in the specific month, where we can not enter Mount Bromo for 24 hours. There is Hindu Temple as well that must be respected during your visit.
Accommodation: There are several options for accommodation in the nearby town of Probolinggo, as well as in the village of Cemoro Lawang, which is closer to the Mount Bromo area. We recommend these area; Ngadisari, Sukapura and Cemoro Lawang Village.
Other attractions: There are other attractions in the area besides Mount Bromo, such as the nearby Madakaripura Waterfall, you can visit it only before midday for your best time and you can visit it after or before visiting Mount Bromo, it’s an hour from Cemoro Lawang Village or nearby.
